There is a setting in the Arma difficulty settings for whether to show red circle indicators on enemy troops, as well as another setting for group member indicators (white hexagons). so far it seems the people on my side sometimes have text above them (so I know their friendly), but other times they don't, so I fire, then when I get closer realise they were friendlies to!
